Pet owners in Singapore know the struggle: air-conditioned, indoor dining that still welcomes dogs is hard to come by. BYD by 1826 Café, tucked into a double-storey lifestyle hub overlooking Zhongshan Park, is one of the few spots in the city that ticks that box and it comes with a full menu, craft beer, and live music performance.

The Zhongshan Park outlet is built as a lifestyle hub first and a café second, and it shows. The double-storey space blends modern elegance with rustic touches, and the dining area is bright, spacious, and fully air-conditioned, a genuine comfort on a hot afternoon. A row of BYD models sits within view, a reminder that the café doubles as a car showroom.

For pet owners, the appeal goes beyond just being allowed to bring a dog along. The café is indoor and air-conditioned throughout, which means no waiting outdoors in the heat or humidity while the rest of the group eats, though there are outdoor seats available too.

The Fish & Chips($28.00) anchors the mains. It’s an in-house marinated, beer-battered black cod, golden and crisp outside with a tender, flaky centre, served alongside shoestring fries and a side of tartar sauce. The batter carries a subtle beer tang from the marinade, while the fries offer the kind of thin, crunchy contrast that pairs well with the fish’s richness.

It’s worth noting that the Beef Ragu Pasta, previously part of the lineup, is no longer on the current menu.

On the side, the Brown Butter Miso Cabbage ($12.00) stood out as more than just a vegetable dish. A charred “steak” of spring cabbage is basted in a nutty brown butter and miso glaze, then topped with a garlic-thyme panko crumble and finished with a Kewpie-wafu drizzle. The result leans savoury and caramelised, with the panko crumble adding a necessary crunch against the soft, roasted cabbage layers.

To drink, the café pours craft beers from Sevendaze, Singapore’s largest microbrewery, starting from $7 a pint, an attractive price point that makes pairing a meal with a drink an easy decision.
To end, the Yuzu Cheesecake ($9.00) offered a lighter, citrus-forward finish, a cream cheese base made with Lescure French butter and yuzu juice, topped with milky chocolate over a buttery biscuit crumble. It struck a balance between tangy and indulgent, without being overly sweet.
For those after even better value, BYD by 1826 runs a $9.90+ three-course set available across lunch and dinner, comprising a starter, a main, and a dessert.

Dogs that visit are treated to a complimentary pup cup, a small touch that signals the café takes its pet-friendly branding seriously rather than treating it as a marketing line. Come evening, live band performances from 7.30pm shift the mood, making the space just as suited to winding down after work as it is to a daytime meal with the family dog.
BYD by 1826 Café at Zhongshan Park earns its spot on a pet owner’s shortlist: air-conditioned comfort, a menu that doesn’t ask you to compromise on quality for affordability, and small details such as the pup cup, the $9.90 set, the evening live music that add up to a well-rounded reason to visit.
Part of the wider BYD by 1826 network, which pairs its dining concepts with BYD electric vehicle showrooms across Singapore – Zhongshan Park is the group’s flagship outlet, and one of several branches, alongside IMM, Suntec City, Boat Quay, Tanjong Pagar, and Waterway Point.
