As July closes out and August rolls in, it’s a packed week on the calendar. We’ve done the filtering for you, narrowing things down to five events worth planning around, whether that means booking a ticket in advance or simply showing up.
Maria Taniguchi: Afterimage
Singapore Art Museum welcomes acclaimed Filipino artist Maria Taniguchi for her first monographic museum exhibition in Singapore. Taking its title from the visual traces that linger in our field of vision after looking away, Afterimage brings together key works across painting, sculpture and moving image that trace recurring concerns in Taniguchi’s practice: repetition, time, and labour.
The show is anchored by her ongoing “brick paintings” (2008–present), towering canvases built up through the repeated hand-painting of brick-like forms, where subtle shifts in colour and scale accumulate the longer you look. Alongside these sit a new iteration of Runaways, a series of wooden sculptures made of straight lines and circles that function as three-dimensional drawings suspended in the gallery, plus four video works spanning 2010 to 2026 that round out her relationship to space, process, and time.

Light Together Bras Basah.Bugis 2026
A new National Day night-time trail lands in Singapore’s arts and heritage district this year, organised by HeritageSG in the lead-up to National Day and running alongside the Singapore Night Festival. Historic buildings and hidden corners across Bras Basah.Bugis get transformed into experiential light and digital installation zones, with a focus on bringing local folklore to life across five locations, including Artspace @ Waterloo Centre, the Reflection Pool at Bras Basah MRT Station, Stamford Place, Stamford Walkway, and the National Museum of Singapore.
It’s a free, no-ticket walking trail, which makes it an easy one to fold into a dinner-and-a-walk evening in the area, especially with CHIJMES and the museum quarter within easy reach.

HoYoFest 2026
HoYoverse’s annual Southeast Asia fan festival pulls into Suntec Singapore for its 2026 edition, bringing together the publisher’s biggest titles, Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3, Honkai: Star Rail, Tears of Themis, and Zenless Zone Zero, under one roof. The headline draw is a playable demo of Honkai: Nexus Anima, a new entry in the Honkai franchise that hasn’t been given a global release date yet, making this one of the first hands-on previews anywhere.
New this year is a dedicated HoYo FEST stage running performances and fan-led segments throughout the day, from interactive game showcases to HoYoverse sing-along sessions. The Artist Alley returns for local fan artists to sell their HoYoverse-inspired work, alongside a Cosplay Runway Walk for those keen to show off their builds.

Somewhere at Bugis Street
Bugis Street’s Level 2 has had a full refresh, and Somewhere is the new lifestyle destination anchoring it: a youth-leaning retail concept developed with Invade, the team behind Artbox and Fleawhere. Expect pre-loved fashion racks, indie labels, creator spaces, workshops, and a rotating weekend market of around 40 local vendors, all built around discovery and community rather than a standard mall layout.
The launch weekend (25 – 26 July) kicked off with Closet Raid, a special-edition market curated by some of Singapore’s most followed fashion content creators, and the space now settles into its regular weekend rhythm moving forward. With the launch of its revitalised Level 2, Bugis Street continues its evolution from a traditional shopping destination into a lifestyle space that celebrates local creativity, independent businesses and community experiences

National Day Concert 2026
Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp’s annual National Day Concert returns to The Meadow this upcoming Sunday under the theme “Seeds of Tomorrow,” following the story of a single seed planted with hope and nurtured across generations as a metaphor for Singapore’s growth and shared future.
Hosted by Mediacorp’s Fadli Kamsani, Germaine Tan, and Saravanan Ayyavoo, the evening lines up performances from Olivia Ong, Benjamin Kheng, Hady Mirza, Sharon Shobana, Sherman Zhuo, and more, building to a mass singalong of National Day favourites and a fireworks finale over the bay.
Gates open at 4.30pm with pre-show activities: SG-themed carnival games, kampung-style classics, community partner booths from SAFRA and NTUC Club, and free ice cream, candy floss, and popcorn while stocks last. Pre-show performances from Urban Drum Crew, Shak, Sharon Shobana, Sherman Zhuo, and Rahila Rashun start from 5pm, with the concert beginning from 7.45pm to 9pm.
